The Seasonal Worker route is a new temporary visa that allows foreign workers to take on
certain short-term work in the United Kingdom under the new immigration system.

What is the Seasonal Worker Visa?

The Seasonal Worker route is for workers in edible horticulture, poultry production, specified pork butchery work or haulage driving (for transportation of food goods) to do seasonal, or temporary work in the UK. Workers under this new route require a sponsor and can stay in the UK for a maximum of 6 months, unless otherwise specified.

This visa has replaced the Temporary Worker – Seasonal Worker visa (T5).

It allows you to come to the UK for the following purposes:

  • Work in seasonal edible horticulture work for up to 6 months.
  • Work with poultry until 31 December 2021.
  • Work as a pork butcher, performing specified butchery work, for up to six months.
  • Convey food by driving heavy goods vehicles until 28 February 2022.

What are the eligibility requirements for this visa?

To meet the requirements, you must:

  • Be over the age of 18.
  • Have a certificate of sponsorship reference number.
  • Have proof of sufficient economic means to support you during the duration of your stay.
  • Have a passport that is valid for at least one year.

What am I permitted to do in the UK on this visa?

The Seasonal Worker visa allows you to:

It is important to follow the rules set out by the Home Office during your time in the UK. Please remember that this visa does not allow you to:

  • Work in a permanent job.
  • Take on any job that is not described in your certificate of sponsorship (CoS).
  • Use public funds.
  • Bring dependents.

You can look at applying for a
different visa to come to the UK if these conditions are not suitable.

Seasonal Worker Visa

Usually valid for up to three months since the date it was assigned to you, a certificate of sponsorship contains:

  • A unique reference number
  • Information about the job
  • Your personal details.

You must ask your sponsor for this number before you start your application.

UK companies need to obtain the relevant Sponsor Licence from UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI), also referred to as the Home Office, before employing skilled workers from outside the UK.

Unfortunately, you are not allowed to bring family members to the UK with you as your dependents on this visa.

If you deliver a child in the UK, please note that they will not automatically qualify for a UK citizenship.

In this case, you will need to apply for a dependent visa and have a full UK birth certificate for each child, showing the names of both parents.

After you have received your certificate of sponsorship from your employer, look at what your official start date is. You can then apply three months before the day you are due to start work in the UK.

You must have had at least £1,270 in your bank account for a duration of at least 28 days in a row to qualify.

If your sponsor has agreed to pay for your expenses for your first month in the UK (at least £1,270), you will be asked to produce confirmation of this when you apply.
