UK employers must conduct Right to Work checks for individuals they intend to hire, ensuring that they are not disqualified from working by reason of their immigration status.
Since April 2022, employers have been able to conduct Right to Work checks using Identification Document Validation Technology – or IDVT.
This is to check the eligibility of prospective employees that hold a valid British or Irish passport or passport card.
This method of verification is carried out by Digital Identity Service Providers – known as IDSPs.
